M.Sc. Microsystems Engineering
Introduction

The Department of Microsystems-Technology at the University of Applied Sciences Furtwangen is offering a Master of Science program in Microsystems Engineering. This one and a half year program assumes a distinct international focus. Courses start in October and March, and graduates of all qualifying disciplines are encouraged to apply for admission. The department is proud to be able to offer this graduate program without having to charge tuition.

The curriculum centers on the rapidly growing market of MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) and related structures. The University of Furtwangen's Department of Mechatronics and Mircosystems Technology merges theory with practical applications in the fields of

  Microelectronics
  Micromechanics
  Microoptics
  Computer Science

This university has a longtime experience in all these areas. The modern laboratories feature state-of-the-art equipment for your studies; development and research in the field can both be retraced and enhanced through our facilities. The intensive M.Sc. program in electrical and microsystems engineering is made up of the following core course modules:

Graduate Program

total:

90 credits

 Microsystems Technology  28 credits
 Electrical Engineering  12 credits
 Electrodynamics  12 credits
 Electives   8 credits
 Thesis  30 credits

The program is postgraduate in nature, leading to the advanced degree of a Master of Science in Engineering (Microsystems Engineering).

Two taught semesters are followed by one semester reserved for the dissertation. Foreign students are advised to complete the thesis requirement in German industry. It is suggested that German nationals work on their thesis abroad.

International Collaboration

Our department cooperates closely with institutions in the UK, USA and the Far East. Our lecturers maintain contacts to companies spread all over the world. Since 1990, we are a member of the European EUROPRACTICE program and the Network of Excellence in Multifunctional Microsystems (NEXUS).

Students do not only train for a professional qualification in Furtwangen: valuable skills for the emerging globalization of our national economies can be acquired. Students benefit from the international contacts of the department. They are further able to build and practice language skills, and broaden their horizon through close interaction with foreign and home students.
